WOLLASTON BEACH - September 21, 2024 - 10:00 am - Four Hours Before High Tide
Disappointment for the Friends of Wollaston Beach
On September 21, 2024, many members of the Friends of Wollaston Beach gathered to participate in an effort that has taken place for well over a decade - COASTSWEEP.
Regrettably, we had to cancel the 2024 Cleanup. The heavy rain was only one part of the decision. The winds were stronger than anticipated and the tide — a King Tide — was already quite high at 10:00 am and high tide was not until 2:00 pm. It was truly a last-minute decision, and not officially called until about 10:30 am. We realized that in very short order, there simply would not be a beach to clean!
Thanks to the many people who showed up to help out in spite of the weather - particularly Barbara, Sarah, Adam, Duncan, Lori, Dave, Bob, Susan, Steve, Margaret, Jeff and Mike. Thanks to Andrew from DCR who initially cordoned off the area in anticipation of the cleanup and then subsequently retrieved the cones.
Due to the uncertainty of the weather and scheduling conflicts, we were unable to reschedule the cleanup for 2024.
